Tour Option 2 - Self Drive Tour
Designed for those who don't want the constraints of a preset time schedule or are unable to fit into an existing tour, this tour allows you the comfort of all the detail of the boutique guided tour but under your own control using the detail provided by Down Under On Route 66 guides.

Our most extensive tours to date included new aspects of Route 66 that even we hadn't experienced. Six cars both heading east to Chicago and then back west to Santa Monica, 20 nights each for the trip of a life time.

With the effects of the pandemic still ringing around the world, many travellers were still reticent to take on a trip to the USA. We're pleased to say the four couples who did so with us, were rewarded with a trip of a life time. 20 days each way, with several new twists to our popular tour making it even more interesting with an extra night to allow more time to discover the old road.

May / June 2019
Seven Mustangs departed Santa Monica on May 22nd bound for Chicago and arrived 19 days later having taken in everything Route 66 has to offer and a bit more from Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Branson Missouri. The return run with our second group was extended a couple of days by special request to include a couple of extra activities at the amazing Palo Duro Canyon at Amarillo and Tent Rocks south west of Santa Fe.

June 2018
Jane Buckman and John Kershaw took a self drive tour in a V8 Mustang convertible from Chicago to Santa Monica using our contacts and guide suggestions. We tailored their tour to some special requirements. Jane has provided a short account of their experience under 'Testimonials'.

September / October 2017
The Westbound tour officially started in Chicago on September 18th and ran down the mother road arriving in Santa Monica on October 6th. In the spirit of running boutique tours for customers this particular trip coincided with the Chicagoland 400 Nascar round and the four Mustangs were being driven to Chicago via several National Parks in Arizona, Utah and Colorado.

April / May 2017
Both legs of this road trip were fully subscribed and our Eastbound R66 Adventurers departed Santa Monica on April 19th 2017 with six Mustangs and their twelve passengers and arrived in Chicago May 6th. The return Westbound group met in Chicago on May 7th and headed back down Route 66, arriving at Santa Monica Pier on May 24th.
