Day 11 - Tri-States

Our first stop after leaving Stroud, Oklahoma was the 1924 Ozark bridge at Bridgeport...

...the first of a few bridges this day. In the past they hardly seemed necessary, spanning creeks with little of no water, but the rains of the last couple of days have seen rivers peaking and flooded roads.

The Blue Whale at Catoosa still had her head above water though but we resisted the temptation to swim like the kids did all those years ago.

Resisting the Packards at Afton was hard too, especially Mike who was eyeing off a very rare and valuable Packard Hawk.

The Coleman Theatre in Miami down the road wasn't devoid from flood waters, sand bags being hastily placed out front after concerns of levels.

Baxter Springs is more famous these days because the man who inspired the backward driving Mater in the movie Cars is here.

'Crazy Legs' Dean dropped in and opened up the shop and performed his weird ritual just for us!

The smallest state on the route is Kansas but it's packed with interest, one being the Rainbow bridge you can drive on to and take photos... normally. Today all we could see was the sign that indicated it was away around the corner... thanks to the rising water. Dean showed us what it should look like!

We received a Stang Gang welcome nearby to escort us into Carthage, our overnight accommodation.

Three members of the local Mustang Club joined us an showed us the remaining sites, including the tow truck at Galena that inspired Tow Mater!

Nearby in Carterville, Larry dished up the best Chocolate ice cream in the country and filled us full of fast facts about Superman in his Supertam Store.

Boots Motel in Missouri was home for the night, the last remaining adobe style motel to survive highway progress, our third state in 24 hours.

Most of us also survived a movie at the 66 Drive In... mind you Boss Baby might have been more appropriate for the grandkids than some of this team but the experience of sitting at the movies, eating take out from the concession was a first for many... and that's what today has been like for most of us.
