Day 5 - Six of the Best
Breakfast at Shelly's Cafe was real Route 66.
Great service and great food.
Great start to the day!
A slow pass through Cuba revealed those amazing murals and then the obligatory stop at the Amish Bakery for supplies.
Thing's still weren't rocking at Fanning but it is a photo opportunity and several wondered how Billy Connelly actually got up on top of it.
Through Rolla we snapped America's version of Stonehenge... perhaps the only thing in the states that isn't big!
We missed Devils Elbow on our eastbound trip and this time saw the reason why.
The Elbow Inn we had hoped to have lunch at had been decimated by millions of gallons of water, the debris on the bridge showing just how high the flooded river had been just days ago.
This small community will be a long time getting back to some sense of normality.
Old gas stations litter the road, some real time capsules, where nothing has changed except the height of the weeds.
We horsed around at Uranus in the souvenir shop and discovered Bulldog John had missed his calling in life!
Uranuas was having renovations - and the signage explained but we couldn't help but feel for the bear's constitution! Jokes are never ending in this little villiage.
We stopped at Lebanon - the museum there is small but top notch and definitely worth a look.
Next door we sampled Sonic, a drive-in hamburger joint just like you might have imagined all those years ago. The food was fine but that wasn't important anyway - this was about the experience.
Branson was our destination, in time for shopping at the outlets... until Robyn discovered the only performance of SIX was at 2pm not 8pm.
Jane, our trusty Tom Tom suggested we could make it in time if we broke out and took to the interstate... so we did, on the i44 and i65 in the rain.
SIX got the reaction we expected, an amazing show from the six brothers... who happen to own six different coloured Camaros.
We lined our Mustangs up behind them after the show and pretty soon the brothers were out checking up on what we were doing and working out how they could get down under to entertain New Zealand. It was the encore to a great show and they even started posting on their SIX Facebook site!
The Outlet Shops got a hiding from both sexes and then the boys slipped off to the Auto & Farm Museum before we had a light, makeshift dinner back at the Seven Gables Hotel. Another good day on the road.
