Day 6 - A State of Entertainment
Evidence they didn't want us to leave Branson was all around as we headed north on the i65 to re-join the mother road.
Springfield might be the home to Bart Simpson (actually there are at least four Springfields in USA) but it’s also home to the biggest Bass Pro Shop in the country as well. It’s a kind of Hunting & Fishing on steroids with something for everyone!
Our friend Bob from the Stang Gang in Joplin met us in Halltown and we cruised on into Gay Parita to see George and Barbara.
They’d laid on a spread of coffee, watermelon and ice creams as well as the expected hospitality for everything Route 66.
Barb’s dad Gary Turner had been an ambassador for the road for years and the pair from Carolina moved here to carry on the family tradition when he and his wife died 18 months ago.
Airplane Kafé seemed like a good stop and another Mustang ring in (albeit in a Faux Mustang!) Jane showed us through Spencer Gas Station nearby.
Our Mustangs charged off down to Red Oak II where we caught up with Lowell Davis. His wife Rose was back from her vacation in the Philippines and the pair entertained us for an hour.
It was Tuck Truck Friday in Carthage tonight and we became honourary Stang Gang members and assembled on display with them at the local park for a couple of hours mingling with the locals and generally soaking up the atmosphere.
We even attracted the attention of the local Police but Rex took the fall for the team!
The Fate of the Furious was showing at the Route 66 Drive-in so as the sun sank we parked up for the night to watch the big screen...
...before retiring to the Boots Motel.
