Day 9 - Clear through Texas

We got lost leaving Sayre... but then that's part of the adventure. It eventually led to a piece of road we'd not been on before so that was a highlight.

Texola on the Texan border has more than once found itself part of Oklahoma come boundary adjustment time... and maybe the confusion has led to it's almost demise.

It's population of 36 increased dramatically as our six stangs slid on through town.

Hazel was waiting for us in Shamrock at the Do Drop Inn, the gas station with wonderful green neon that features in Cars. Today it was about a trip back in time... or perhaps memory lane for Ray and Annette!

Bug Ranch was only a quick stop in Conway...

...before a longer stop at the Devils Rope Museum in McLean which was Chris Fraser's pick for highlight of the day. There was even some good old Kiwi No 8 fencing wire and associated tools.

The Texaco Gas Station a couple of blocks away was another photo op and then it was a case of 'Is This The Way To Amarillo'... for lunch.

The Big Texan threw on lunch... and a country and western crooner to entertain us.

Mind you our resident rodent was almost as entertaining perched up on the Big Texan rocking chair!

Buying pie was the order of the day, 1 x cherry and 1 x apple / walnut for desert for the end of the day but first a stop and shop at Cavender's Boot Store.

Out on Cadillac Ranch we left our mark in the farmers field before exiting Amarillo bound for the border with New Mexico.

Erick might have been home of the Bearcats but it was also once home to Roger Miller and that interested the King of the Road fans more.

The Mid Point on our Westbound adventure has come around all too quick.

A picture to tell the story and then on to Exit 0. That tells you we're right on the border and that's also where we find Glenrio.... a town just a hundred yards from the bustling i40, complete

with it's now disused dual lanes withering away in the wind.

Russell's Truck stop across the state line is far from withering. Behind the thriving gas Station is one of the best small collections of classic cars and other display memorabilia you can hope to assemble.

It got John Hague's vote for cars... Carole Fraser's for Marilyn and Ray Tansey's for Elvis!

The Blue Swallow Motel ended our day... amidst the neon lights, Tucumcari is famous for and around the fire after pizza and pie, sampling S'mores (melted marshmallows, between sweet biscuits and dark chocolate!!)

We've burned up another day on the mother road!
