Day 10 - Off the Beaten Track

Farewelling Tucumcari we headed west and pretty soon found ourselves under and over the i40.

In Santa Rosa we dined for breakfast at the (old) Route 66 _estaurant, that looked like it was pretty legit... inside and out! Great food though.

The Route 66 Auto Museum got the thumbs up from the guys and girls. Small, eclectic collection of cars representing the personality of the owner.

We didn't take the early alignment to Sante Fe, opting to stay on the i40 and pull some time back to maximise our time in the Adobe capital.

Old towns like Newick lie in the shadows between the interstate and the railroad. Your imagination can run wild thinking about what life was like here once.

That did mean Clines Corners became a quick stop, to survey that massive shop, the ultimate place to acquire any and every trinket imaginable... only problem is most of them are made in China or India - not quite so authentic!

So it was up highway 285 to Santa Fe and the only thing interesting about that was the girls got behind the wheel of the stangs for the first time. No issues at all and one unnamed female from Taupo who's married to Rex Ferrell actually broke through 100 barrier (was that kph?)

Santa Fe was all that was expected... great architecture!

The Staircase at Loreto Chapel made a century of more ago and without nails!

...and let's not forget the oldest house in America.
