Four Mustangs and their crews left Chicago as expected yesterday morning. A road trip from Los Angeles to Chicago over the preceding 9 days by Robyn, Paul, John, Nick, Vinh, Ebony and 8 months old Leilani took in many fantastic National Parks - in a road trip quite in contrast to Route 66 but certainly worth considering for the future.

The special highlight of this pre event road trip was a day at Chicagoland for the first round of Nascar - 'The Tales from the Turtles'! Quite an experience (very loud!) for our rookie Aussie and Kiwi attendees and while Kyle Busch never quite made up for his tyre issue his attempt at coming back through the field was worth the watch.

But back to the real business - looking back at the old days of Chicago on the Untouchables Tour and admiring the city's architecture from the river got the last tour for 2017 off and running.

A Chicago road trip means Lou Mitchells for breakfast where one egg means two and two means four - the first of our USA super sizing experience!

Getting out of town was no major drama but Grant did get a serious lecture from one local who didn't want his photo taken... well actually Grant wanted the official Route 66 Start sign, not him!

Our September tour is Gary & Frances Smith, Ray & Jenni Foot from Hamilton and Grant & Karen Ford from Christchurch! But our entourage got extended when we ran into a couple of Targa NZ competitors in Braidwood at Joliet - boy it's a small world! Michael Sexton & Neil Tolich were at the end of their USA race track experience and were bound for California.

They joined us visiting Phil & Deb Becker from the old Texaco Gas Station where our three Kiwi Caltex proprietors felt right at home... until they visited Phil's home and his man cave and Hot Rods... and then they were nothing but green.

90 minutes at Pontiac was soaked up easily in several interesting museums including Pontiac cars (well you'd expect that in Pontiac wouldn't you!), gold gilding, war memorabilia... oh and of course Route 66.

We drove down memory Lane in Lexington and walked the same in Towanda.

The overnight stop was in Bloomington and dinner was at Epiphany Farms restaurant where they grow and breed their own produce. The highlight of the first night on the road was the Becker's place in Dwight and interestingly Phil's huge tool cabinet ranked right up their with his Hot Rods!
