Breakfast was at Mr Dz's in Kingman before descending into the Grand Canyon Caverns.

The privately owned cave, originally thought to have gold, silver and diamonds (the reality was quite different to the expectation!) is dry enough that everything down here is preserved.

That included a Bobcat from the previous century and some provisions the Federal Government positioned here years ago as a 'safety bunker' for up to 2000 people should the threat of a nuclear disaster come to fruition. There are no old dinosaurs around these days but a saddle clearly showed the size they would be... and it made for any interesting ride for Julie!

Back on the surface we continued to loop around the i40 on Route 66 to Hackberry.

The General Store here is famous for the 56 Corvette that was always parked outside but these days, under new ownership the only remnant of the old car is on posters and calendars. Still a few relics lying around make it a worthwhile attraction to stop for... and flowering cacti mean we're definitely in Arizona.

Inside, there was an abundance of purchasing options and we did our bit to keep the local economy in good shape.

Next stop - the birthplace of Historic R66 - Seligman and home of the godfather Angel, the man who stirred up action to revitalise the old road and responsible for the movement that makes the Mother Road what it is today.

Paul took one for the team, going under the knife for a cut throat shave from arguably the most famous barber in the land.

Angel's brother ran the local take out 'Snow Cone' and his family keep alive the wicked sense of humour at the counter. "You wanna straw with that drink".... "You just wanta look"!

A worthwhile experience leaving a smile on everyone's faces at lunch even if this snap doesn't quite evoke the real feeling!!... but you get the idea.

Our cars drew plenty of attention for other travellers so Ken and Paul did their best to accommodate the fast growing 'Down Under Fan Club'.

We rounded Chino Point after lunch winding into Williams early for our overnight stay.

There was time enough to have a walk, do some washing and have a quick look around before we were on the road to Tusayan and the Imax Theatre.

It's one of the best big screen movies with stunning photography and set the scene for dinner out on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to finish off our sixth day on the road.
