2023 EB Day 19 - WB Day 1 - Route 66 Ends & Begins

The last day of our Eastbound tour was the first for our Westbound, so we combined the teams and converged on the official 'end' sign on the corner of Michigan and Jackson.


There's a start sign one block away on the other one way street but in the early days, Jackson was two way and this was where it started and finished!


With Taylor Swift attracting half of USA to Chicago, we stayed out of the CBD but did travel in for a look around...

and breakfast at a staple Route 66 Diner, Lou Mitchells.

Now in their 100th year, this icon of the road has been in business for three years longer than Route 66. 95 yr old Donna welcomed us, as she has done for thousands of guests for the past 38 years.

We found an empty parking lot for the day but nothing like the spots at the 'Corn Cob Towers'.

Al Capone might have been disappointed The Untouchable City gangster tour didn't hit the mark on this occasion...

but the Architectural River Cruise sure did.
Chicago opens like a butterfly from the water and the depth and richness of her architecture is revealed.







By late afternoon, some of the crew had returned home while others stayed on to see how crazy their photos could look at The Bean...

...an unusual computer designed and built stainless steel sculpture in Millenium
Park.

It's perfect to create a little weird art of your own!

As night fell they also witnessed the extraordinary light show - Art On The Mart - beamed every night onto the largest privately owned commercial building in the USA.
