2023 WB Day 15 - Inspiring

Everything got fired up pretty quick after breakfast with a gun fight at the Railway Station.

It preceded the train for those bound for Grand Canyon.

Out on our concrete pathway, the interstate dropped us 1500 feet to the plains below.

Ash Fork was our first stop.

Not much life really but evidence there once was.

These days the Dunbar Stone Co. must be the town's saviour... flagstone for acres.

We entered the home of Burma Shave signs...

...leading to Angel Delgadillo, the mastermind behind this historic road.

Angel's an inspiration in life, at a ripe old age of 96 it's infectious to listen to him.

His son-in-law Mauricio, also didn't skip a beat, explaining the missing bits of the movie 'Wish Man', featuring Angel's brother Juan, who took 'Make A Wish' founder Frank Shankwitz under his wing as a 10 yr old.

Juan's Snow Cap Diner still trades and his own family continue the tradition for having fun serving food.

Our leftover lunch was consumed at the temporarily closed Grand Canyon Caverns.

Seems the dinasaur of an elevator needs replacing...

but the motel was still trading.

We rolled on through the rocky terrain descending further to Hackberry Store.

Plenty of prehistoric cars to feast on here.

And if we hadn't bought enough road 'stuff' already, one final opportunity heading west, at possibly the best supplied and priced stop on this whole adventure.

Things were a buzz at Gigantus Headicus...

...many of the cars previously lining the entrance to the caverns were now on display here, so at least they're not lost to Mother Road travelers.

Overlooking Kingman is the Hualapai State Park.

This little gem is a rare inland island, one of only a handful in the world.

The temperature dropped from 37 in the desert to more comfortable 25 in the climb up the mountain where the landscape is in stark contrast to its surrounds below.

At the El Trovatore Motel we were warmly greeted by larger than life Sam, who entertained us with snippets of Kingman's past.

Who ever knew Pamela Anderson landed herself behind bars twice in this Arizona town!
