2024 WB Day 12 - Forgotten & Forlorn

Brekky at Kix on 66 in Tucumcari got everyone off to a great start.. classic diner, 50’s style.

The interstate west of Tucumcari revealed countless examples of small town America left in its wake.

66, the i40 and rail line run parallel through these straight flat bits of USA… the imagination winds back to how tough it must have been in the dust bowl days.

Fortunately in Santa Rosa Bozo has spent a life bringing old car wrecks back from the brink and today he showed us a few of his creations.

It was wife Anna’s birthday, which also is flag day in USA so we celebrated with her!

He opens up his workshop over the road to show us the latest creations…

But the real sting in the tail was at his home outside the garage.

Inside, more gems in the form of modified 40s , 50s and 60s machinery waiting for the magic touch that Bozo and his team seem to possess.

We eventually dragged ourselves back on the road,

…heading north to the highest point on Route 66, over 7000 feet.

It’s an early alignment, pre 1937 that leads to Santa Fe, the New Mexico and Adobe capital of America.
